Cup of Tea for your Soul, Session 1: Grounding & Breath

Cup of tea for your soul is a virtual relaxation series to support comfort, relaxation, and connection to a shared goal. Session 1 is all about supporting grounding using our breath.

Breathing deeply into your belly stimulates the vagus nerve, and sends signals to your brain that you are safe and your body can relax. Guided visualization can help build new neural pathways in the brain, and regular practice helps us to use

Those pathways more readily for relaxation, building resilience.

What to bring:

Journal & writing utensil
Comfortable clothes, comfortable place to sit or lay down
Soothing beverage of your choosing

Optional tip: How can you tap into your senses to enhance your relaxation experience? Do you have a preferred candle, hand lotion, or comfortable eye pillow? Perhaps a weighted blanket?

Session 2 centers around Emotional Release.

Allowing yourself to cry, sigh, or laugh stimulates the release of hormones that help emotions move through us, building our emotional resilience and “window of tolerance.” We are surrounded by messages about when/where it’s okay to feel and how we share those feelings. Some of those messages are helpful, and some are not. Our emotions communicate such important information to us, because we are biologically wired to feel. They are not the enemy.

Session 3 is all about Self Compassion. Research shows that self-compassion isn’t just a mushy new age concept. It has shown to increase our window of tolerance, decrease anxiety, and strengthen our relationships.

Cup of Tea for your Soul Session 4: Integration and Resilience

Cup of tea for your soul is a virtual relaxation series to support comfort, relaxation, and connection to a shared goal. Session 4 is about integrating learning and building resilience. You do not have to attend previous sessions to benefit. Your brain can’t always tell the difference between visualization and experiencing. This week we will bring the series to a close by integrating past learning experiences and creating a calm and safe place that we can resource anytime we may need it. Attendance at all of the previous sessions are not necessary but may enhance the experience. Come with me as we practice using the neural pathways that are responsible for helping our bodies feel safe and at rest to continue to build our resilience in the face of challenges.
